How to answer a journal prompt
- Pick one prompt. One is enough. If it does not land, get a new one.
- Keep going for three minutes. Do not stop to fix anything. If you run dry, repeat the question.
- End with one line. “The thing I want to remember is…”
You do not have to write. Talking through a prompt, to a voice memo or just to the room, is often faster and less polished, which makes it easier to say what you actually mean. Our guide to voice journaling covers how to make it a habit.
Journaling can be a helpful habit, but it is not a treatment. If difficult feelings keep coming up, consider speaking with someone you trust or a professional. See our safety page.
